Four space programmes, two questions each and 100 seconds to protect Europe from crises. A playful journey on mobile and iPad for the EU Space exhibition at the Cité des Sciences in Paris.

Mission

For the exhibition dedicated to the European Union's space programme at the Cité des Sciences et de l'Industrie, DG DEFIS wanted an experience that turns the visit into a mission. Through VO Europe, we designed and developed EU Space Agent, a bilingual (FR/EN) web app that lets visitors discover Copernicus, Galileo, IRIS² and space situational awareness by playing.

The project

Challenges & Goals

Make space programmes that often feel abstract to the general public tangible, by showing how useful they are in everyday life: observing the Earth, finding your way, staying connected, protecting satellites. Each step can be discovered in a few minutes and makes you want to complete the whole journey.

Target audience

The exhibition's general public, playing on their own smartphone after scanning a QR code, or directly on the iPad kiosks installed on site.

Implementation

A journey in three acts. Visitors explore the four components of the programme and answer two questions to unlock each badge. Once the 4 badges are collected, they launch the final mission: 100 seconds to locate 8 incidents on the map of Europe and deploy the right programme, with a score and a shared leaderboard. The iPad kiosks run in kiosk mode (discovery, game, leaderboard screen), configured with a simple URL parameter.

Creative approach

An illustrated space universe: hand-drawn satellites, a neon-blue map of Europe, futuristic headings. Gamification serves the educational purpose, with badges to collect, a countdown and a personalised "Certified EU Space Agent" certificate featuring the player's photo, ready to share.
